This one-hour television special visits
Colombia ’s world-famous Barranquilla Carnival,
the beloved Flower Festival in Medellin, vibrant Christmas
celebrations and passionate sporting events. Images blend
together with the distinctive sounds of the vallenato
and cumbia music. Interviews with families and some well-known
Colombians highlight fond memories that paint a vivid
portrait of a remarkable country. The program features
interviews with Juanes,
Rafael Escalona, Edgar Renteria, Luis
Carlos Perea, Enrique Córdoba and Eucario
Bermúdez, among many others. Also featured are
Colombians in South Florida who are working hard to keep
their traditions alive.
The program begins with breathtaking views
of Colombia’s natural landscapes, then goes inside
various cities to illustrate the wide variety of cultures
that make up the country. Viewers ride along with families
to “fincas” or ranch houses for weekend outings,
and join a Colombian Christmas, complete with Colombian
carols, guitars and maracas. MI COLOMBIA also honors
the country’s diverse musical traditions, including
the popular cumbia and the vallenato, which originated
in the region of Valledupar, near the Caribbean coast.
MI COLOMBIA ties personal family photographs together
with archival and contemporary footage of Colombia, underscored
by the vibrant rhythms of its music.
Producer Marilu
Lozada and videographer Allan
Farrell traveled to Colombia to capture the essence
of a diverse people and culture. “We were amazed
by the beauty of Colombia’s mountains and the
Caribbean Coast,” says Lozada. “But what
struck us most was the warmth and joyful spirit of
the people. Everywhere we went, everyone was eager
to talk with us about the wonderful aspects of their
country.”
