The
James I. Keller Society
It was
in November 1953, under the leadership of well-known and respected
community leader James I. Keller, Jr., that Community Television
Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit organization to
raise funds to operate Channel 2. The FCC had approved the
application to operate the station, but there was no budget,
no income and no staff. James I. Keller served as the first
President from 1954 to 1965 and as the first Chairman of the
Board from 1966 to 1971. Under his leadership, with the aid
of diligent and dedicated Board and staff, Channel 2 began
to raise funds, to grow and to flourish to a point where today
it is regarded as one of the leaders in the industry.
It was
the eyes of tomorrow that James I. Keller envisioned public
television and made it a reality in South Florida, and it
was with the eyes of tomorrow that Channel 2's Board of Directors
established the Program Trust Fund, the endowment to assure
the future of public television in South Florida.
Bequests
have become an increasingly important part of that future,
and they will always play a most important role in the development
of the endowment, where they remain as a permanent memorial
to the donor. Through a bequest, individuals both of great
wealth and modest means can create a memorial while helping
preserve for the enjoyment of future generations the public
television service which has had special meaning for them.
A bequest
society named for James I. Keller, Jr., whose vision and foresight
made Channel 2 a reality, has been established to pay tribute
to friends who have had the vision and foresight to include
us in their estate plans. If you have included Channel 2 in
your plans, please let us know so that we might honor your
vision and, in so doing, encourage others to follow your example.
