VP, Development - WPBT Channel
2 seeks a Vice President for Development to lead and supervise the
areas of Direct Mail fundraising, Underwriting, Telefundraising and
Auction. Develop and implement fundraising plans to establish performance
goals and objectives for cultivation, retention and increased giving.
Lead and supervise the underwriting department to attract local corporate
support. Develop strategies and goals for effective sales efforts
to attract funding for local productions, acquisitions, PBS supplied
programs and special station events. Develop, cultivate and solicit
and portfolio of major donor prospects; working closely with Senior
Management, the President, Board and Volunteers to achieve established
goals. Establish and monitor department operating budgets. Batchelor’s
degree with an emphasis on business, management, fundraising and
public relations or equivalent. Must understand the major gifts solicitation
process and have the ability and proven track record to personally
close major gifts. Ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of
people with multiple and varied job duties. Strong organization,
budgeting and time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication
skills. Energetic, outgoing personality with friendly, customer-service
orientation and the ability to interact pleasantly with a wide variety
of people. Experience in a multi-disciplined development program
with a working knowledge of direct mail, telefundraising, corporate
fundraising and major donor solicitations. Experience with strategic
planning, personnel administration, budgeting and performance management
systems a plus.
Associate Producer – NBR (DC Bureau) - WPBT’s “Nightly
Business Report” has immediate
opening in our Washington, D.C. bureau for individual to research
and develop story ideas; schedule interviews, camera crews, commentary
taping, B-Roll shoots, edit sessions and other activities for story
coverage. Maintains contact with news sources; produces, writes and
edits as necessary for reporter packages, sound bites or other elements
needed for the broadcast of NBR. Must have at least two years experience
in TV writing, producing and/or reporting. Working knowledge of on-line/off-line
editing. College degree with major emphasis in Mass Communication,
Journalism or Economics or equivalent. Broadcast experience preferred.
An understanding of the functioning of the economy, business and
government a plus.
Associate Web Producer – NBR (Part-Time) – WBPT’s “Nightly
Business Report” seeks an individual to handle ongoing development
and daily maintenance of its new “Get Your Finances Ready for
Retirement” website. Coordinates content with the project’s
broadcast producer and external media partners. Writes descriptive
copy, publishes transcripts and articles, encodes and uploads video,
and edits graphics. Works with NBR’s web producer to maintain
quality assurance in the web production processes and products. Bachelor’s
Degree and at least 1 year full-time work experience in a journalism
environment preferred. Will consider college students with internship
experience; must have solid communications and critical thinking
skills and an understanding of journalism ethics. Working knowledge
of content management systems, HTML, and photo editing software required.
Working knowledge of CSS, XML, RSS, and video encoding software preferred.
This is a grant based position scheduled to begin in late April ’08.
some site updates can be done from home, but most work requires associate
web producer to be present in the NBR newsroom three to four days
a week.
Marketing & Promotions Manger – WPBT2
seeking individual to execute all responsibilities associated with
creating and executing marketing and promotional campaigns and station
relations for WPBT content. Services press for twelve-county area.
Disseminates program info and develops and distributes press materials.
Maintains up-to-date media lists and close contact with reporters
and editors. Generates awareness and publicity for WPBT content through
the creation and distribution of press and marketing materials and
station relations. Supervises the writing/editing/proofreading of
WPBT’s monthly program guide. Assists in development of brand
strategies. Develops campaigns and material with design team for
programs, station image and special projects. Writes copy and arranges
media placement for print ads. Maintains account records for billing
and budget. Coordinates barter ads; creates original press releases
and promotional material for WPBT content. Experience in PR, publicity,
and marketing or content-related field desirable. College graduate
with major in English/Journalism or related field. Press contact
and/or knowledge of market a plus. Previous experience in public
television preferred. Strong managerial, organizational and leadership
capabilities. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
Strong written and verbal skills a must. Ability to motivate and
direct others. Computer skills essential. Photoshop, Adobe publishing
are preferable. Supervisory responsibilities include: day-to-day
operation of the Marketing and Promotions department. Manages and
monitors staff assignments and overall workload. Responsible for
the on-going evaluation and recruitment of department staff. Responsible
for monitoring budgets and expenses.
Senior Information Systems
Engineer - WPBT2 seeks
a systems administrator responsible for coordinating and implementing
all company-wide computer needs. Recommends changes to software and
hardware platforms as needed. Assists in the development and design
of new software with outside consultants. Performs system support
function and schedules staff to respond to user requests in a timely
manner. Responsible for providing technical leadership and resource
management for IT Network infrastructure and other projects. Verifies
that proper computer back-up procedures and end of the day routines
are scheduled. This position requires evidence of managerial and
technical achievement. Must have extensive knowledge of information
technology standards, practices and trends including data and voice
communications systems. Understanding of client/server computing
LAN/WAN topologies, switches, hubs, routers and firewalls, etc. Demonstrated
skills with operating systems to include Windows, Unix & MAC.
Detailed knowledge of computer operations with a strong technical
background. Must be able to work harmoniously with peers and to be
able to identify and resolve problems under stressful situations.
BS in Communications, Information Management, Management Information
Systems or Computer Science required. Five years of progressively
responsible related experience or equivalent.
Telephone Fundraisers - Excellent opportunity
for motivated individual to join our fundraising staff. Will make outbound
calls to members and potential members. Must be enthusiastic with excellent
communication skills. Evening afternoon & weekend hours available.

Television Director – WPBT2
seeking individual to execute all responsibilities associated with
directing for videotape or live television studio or remote production
and the techniques using television equipment, talent, station personnel
and related sources. Coordinates with the Supervisor of Production
Services regarding the selection of visuals, special effects, music
and other important aspects of the particular production assigned.
Initiates art and photo orders. Determines, assigns and supervises
construction, decoration and lighting. Directs production of promotions
and shows. Assist in the development and preparation of program proposals
for local distribution in conjunction with the Producer assigned
to the project. Requires minimum 3 years experience in TV production
as a director and thorough knowledge of all phases and techniques
of television production including lighting, art direction, audio
and camera operation. Experience in live studio and remotes. HS graduate
or equivalent. College degree with major coursework in field of mass
communications or equivalent experience preferred. Strong organizational
abilities, planning and follow through. Detailed oriented; ability
to relate with other.
